There are loads of Christmas movies from great ones to extremely bad ones (*cough* *Hallmark* *cough* ). So on the day before the fat man slides down your chimney, we want to highlight our favorite Christmas movie characters. Obvious warning, this is going to be biased.
Hermey- Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer
This 1964 classic showcases an adorable blonde elf who doesn’t really fit in. He openly expresses his frustration with the toy making business and dreams of becoming a dentist. He’s dedicated, doesn’t let the criticism discourage him, and fights for his dream! Literally, he fought the abominable snowman and removed all his teeth! So yeah, he’s pretty hardcore. We also can’t help but love his passion for teeth, as we have that in common.
Do you remember that time when you went back to watch elf and realized that Zoey Deschanel was blonde? That took us for a spin when we made that connection all those years ago. Jovie is an amazing character that starts out the show with a more cynical and somber tone. And who wouldn’t be? Sometimes the holidays aren’t all they’re cracked up to be, especially if you have to work retail. But in addition to her fun cynicism and negativity, Jovie shows she is kind, considerate, and courageous as she conquers her fear of singing in front of people. We can’t help but just love her realness!
John McClane- Die Hard
He might be the wrong guy, in the wrong place, at the wrong time, but we love him for it. John McClane is a hard-core, smartmouthed Policeman that spends his Christmas fighting off terrorists...shirtless. His hilarious one-liners and oh so perfectly placed F-bombs only drop him farther and farther into our hearts. While this movie was originally released in July, screenwriter Steven E. de Souza was adamant that this movie would be a Christmas classic. If you’re still on the fence, check out this compelling Christmas Movie checklist de Souza used to prove his point.
Jack Skellington- The Nightmare Before Christmas
His ghostlike charm, lanky appearance, and fear-inducing screams really make him the best Pumpkin King. Jack’s story is unique as he battles a mid-life crisis which leads him to take over Christmas. His perseverance and dedication to make a quality Christmas is admirable despite his inability to do anything but Halloween. Safe to say he would make the most horrifically spending Christmas (for all you Halloween lovers). In the end, he realized his mistake and sets things right. You may ask, is it fair to pick a Halloween character as our favorite Christmas character? Why yes, yes it is. There’s not a single character in Christmas town that is as cool as Jack Skellington… not even Sandy Claws!
